The 2-day Kamikochi version (¥10,500) costs ¥500 less than the ¥11,000 for the same trip on single tickets; its page says the ropeway ticket is good for one round trip. The 2-day Okuhida ticket (¥7,700) is also ¥500 less than the ¥8,200 bus-and-ropeway total, if its ropeway ticket is a round trip too: its page doesn't say, so ask at the counter. Both passes also let you get on and off along the line.
Which ticket should you buy?
- Day trip or overnight to the Shinhotaka Ropeway: the Okuhida Marugoto Value Ticket. It is sold until March 31, 2027, so it covers winter, when the ropeway is listed as open year-round, weather permitting (Shinhotaka Ropeway).
- Ropeway plus Kamikochi in season: the Kamikochi version. The Kamikochi bus runs only from April 17 to November 15 in 2026 (Nohi Bus).
- Staying at the Okuhida hot springs without the ropeway: the Takayama & Shin-Hotaka Two-Day Open Ticket (¥4,400) costs the same as a return to the ropeway stop and lets you stop at Hirayu, Shin-Hirayu or Tochio on the way.
- Only going to Hirayu Onsen and back: single tickets, ¥1,600 each way (Nohi Bus).
How do you buy and use the passes?
- At the counter: both Marugoto tickets are sold at the Takayama bus terminal and the Hirayu bus terminal; the Kamikochi version is sold on the day at the counter (Nohi Bus).
- Online: Klook lists the Okuhida Marugoto Value Ticket from Takayama as a mobile ticket in 2- and 3-day plans; its listing says the Kamikochi bus is not included.
- No reservations: Nohi Bus says neither the buses nor the ropeway take reservations with these tickets, so at busy times you may not board the bus you want (same source).
- If the ropeway stops: the passes can't be used when the ropeway is suspended; if it is suspended after your trip starts, you get a service voucher for the ropeway facilities, not a cash refund (Nohi Bus).
