The bus is part of the line that runs between Takayama, Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa, Takaoka or Toyama. Nohi Bus lists the adult fare between Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa as ¥2,800 one way, and between Shirakawa-go and Toyama as ¥2,400 (Nohi Bus, as of October 2026).
Reservations: services marked "R" on the timetable need a reserved seat, and reserved services can be booked online through Japan Bus Online. Mobile tickets are only for non-reserved buses (same source). The Tourist Association also links to the reservation pages of Gifu Bus, Nohi Bus and Hokuriku Hida 3-Star Road (Shirakawa-go Tourist Association). Book your return bus at the same time as the outbound one: it sets how long you can stay.
Frequency: Nohi Bus lists 16 round trips a day on the line, but some services do not run on weekends, national holidays, August 13–15 or December 29–January 3 (Nohi Bus).
Flying in? The Tourist Association says the Komatsu Airport Limousine Bus reaches Kanazawa Station in about 40 minutes, where you change to the express bus (Shirakawa-go Tourist Association).
What can you see in a day?
The Tourist Association estimates that walking around the village takes about 2–3 hours (Shirakawa-go Tourist Association FAQ, as of October 2026). A simple plan:
| Time | Plan |
|---|---|
| Morning | Bus from Kanazawa Station |
| First hour | Shiroyama viewpoint by shuttle from in front of Wada House (¥200 one way, cash; runs 10:00–14:40, with a break 12:00–13:00) |
| Late morning | Wada House (¥400, cash only) and the village streets |
| Early afternoon | Lunch, then Gassho-zukuri Minkaen open-air museum (¥600) |
| Afternoon | Bus back to Kanazawa, or on to Takayama |

Go up to the viewpoint early: the shuttle's last run is 14:40. More on each sight is in our Shirakawa-go guide.
What should you know before you go?
- No night visits for day-trippers. Day visitors are not admitted to the village after dark; only overnight guests are, except on light-up evenings (Shirakawa-go Tourist Association).
- Carry cash for the viewpoint shuttle and Wada House.
- Take your trash with you. There are no trash cans in the village (Shirakawa-go Tourist Association FAQ).
- Luggage: coin lockers at Shirakawago Bus Terminal cost ¥500 or ¥1,000 per use from 8:00 to 17:00 (same FAQ). If you are moving on to Takayama the same day, this lets you visit with your suitcase.
- Winter: Nohi Bus warns that delays of two hours or more can occur in winter, because of traffic waiting for parking at Shirakawa-go, heavy snow or expressway closures (Nohi Bus). Don't plan a tight connection afterwards. See the best time to visit Shirakawa-go and our 2027 light-up guide.
